Old Oswestry Hill Fort on a clear winter day — frost on the ramparts, bare trees, the Shropshire plain stretching away toward the Wrekin — is one of the finer winter walks in the Marches. Colemere in winter has wildfowl at their most concentrated and the light over the mere in the afternoons is often very beautiful. The canal towpath is well-surfaced and walkable year-round.
